Either the rainforest in Australia has some pretty amazing natural geometric shapes or there are little people that travel by night with some sharp scissors.

Your time and efforts were well spent. That top one is really amazing. Sometimes here in Florida we get a dusk rainstorm and when it stops, the sky is a yellowy color that gives everything a coloring almost just like this. Very moody.

I like the bottom one too. I wonder if this was along a path? Here in Florida they’ll trim some of the sharper edges so that passers by won’t be skewered. I posted a couple of pics of some on my blog one day if you care to see them. Maybe they really were trimmed.ReplyCancel

    Hello!

How did you keep some colors b&w and the green still intense?

    cheers,

About 90% of the people in Australia live near the coast. The outback is hot and dry and is less than paradise. This is Jesse and he’s making a go of the outback lifestyle. His dad and mom did it and he’s following in their footsteps. They have a cattle ranch but are very open to visitors. What a great place to get the outback experience. Scattered around the property are antiques that blew me away. Here are some antiques on the porch of one of the bunk houses. The bar was a cool set up with all visitors writing their name on the wall.

Without a doubt, three very amazing photographs. They each tell a lot about the lives of the people there.

I love the portrait. I think, “That handsome young man would set the world’s women swooning if he were on the big screen” but he lives this rough and ready, remote life out there.ReplyCancel

Fraser Island is an island that is all sand – not a reef. It’s undeveloped for the most part with a few dirt roads to get around by 4 wheel. There are lots of photo gifts along the shore to click.

These are HDR images processed in Photomatix. Each pic is the result of merging 7 images taken at different exposures. The tutorial section of this blog has a coupon if you want Photomatix at a discount.

These photos, and the whole HDR thing borders on magic. It’s amazing to see. Even the “after” samples on Photomatix’s site are astounding. This is definitely my next thing to try.

Wonderful work on these, and what is that rusty tube thingy through which you took the lower photo?

Hi, Thanks for the comments. The rusty tube is some sort of tank along the shoreline, sorry I don’t know the story behind it.ReplyCancel

Aha! The motherload. I was wondering where all those Aussie pics were. This is really amazing! Its got to be explore material. The pics are all beautiful!ReplyCancel

The tank is a old boiler from a ship that was wrecked name unknown . Its gone now covered in sand or picked up in the last car and scrap clean up. Great picture of man and natureReplyCancel

Oops it’s Cape Bryon Lighthouse but I’m stuck with the permalink so I’ll have to keep the title until I figure out a work around.

A great view from above of the ocean to watch for whales. The most easterly point in Australia.

I like shooting into the sun but that means lens flare. I fixed a few flares in this pic.

I really like the dip and swing in this pic, with the less-flare sunburst like a beacon but still somehow soft and in that bright blue. Beautiful.ReplyCancel

This is Kashi. He spends his time at Byron Headlight pointing out whales to the tourists. He told me it’s what he loves to do and is now a volunteer at the headlight. He was able to see a whale break the surface even when white caps were everywhere, he must be really good at Where’s Waldo. My original note said he was “Marriott.” I listened to the wrong .wav file.

Love this. Very evocative of a life on and near the ocean.ReplyCancel

This is an incredible portrait. He has very kind eyes, but the wild hair and beard speak of someone a bit rough around the edges too.ReplyCancel

I am hoping to be in Byron Bay next week to watch for whales. Will keep an eye out for Kashi.ReplyCancel
