9 Beaches has these small huts built on the water. Pretty cool when the ocean waves crash under your bed at night. The huts are made of the same canvas that sailboat sails are made from.

This is an HDR image and is one used for the Photomatix tutorial. If you would like to learn a little about HDR start with Taking the Pictures in the tutorial section.

I found a pic of Stonehole Bay in a magazine and did a web search. Your site came up and I was awed by your images!!! Where is this pic of the cottage on the water with the island in front and the water surrounding in all directions. I am trying to find a private location for my honeymoon and this is idyllic. Please let me know where I can find this location. I am in LOVE!! Bermuda may have a new Financial Advisor taking up residency when I arrive.
    Thanks so much!
    Rhonda

The huts are perfect for a honey moon, certainly memorable.

It is called “9 beaches” and is named for the small semi-private beaches that surround the huts.

They huts are made of sail boat canvas so when it was windy they can be a bit noisy. If you are looking for incredible amenities this may not be the place – it’s a bit like roughing it in the huts. The huts are well…. HUTS, it was a bit windy, I think there were white caps in the toilet. It was wonderful sleeping with waves crashing UNDER your bed at night. I would do it again. On the property is a nice restaurant and bar, night life is kinda quiet. I love Bermuda, a little expensive (lunch about $25), very safe, everyone on the island has a well paying job so crime is almost non existent. You guys must put on your list renting scooters – it’s the most fun way to move about the island.

    Good Luck,
    Ferrell

Bermuda is a great vacation place! It can be a little expensive but it’s safe because everyone has a high paying job thanks to tourism. You get back what you give.

When you get there rent a scooter. Everyone in Bermuda has a scooter even the locals. It doesn’t matter if they are in a suit & tie or dress & high heels, they ride their scooter. All the tourists, like me, rent scooters but they give us the slow ones. Mine would only go 25mph but the locals have 50mph scooters.  As you meander through the narrow roads it’s a constant beep-beep and whiz-around from the locals. They seem to have no fear slipping between you and an oncoming scooter.

Don’t forget, they drive on the wrong….I mean the left side of the road. Driving on the left is easy to do but it requires at least one mistake that brings you within an inch of death to really solidify the habit.

My husband just bought me a NikonD80 and I am novice novice novice but I have always wanted to be a photographer and ready to make that dream a reality! Are you a professional photographer? I am mesmerized by your shots – I read your tutorial on HDR/taking the shots. Is there a program you would recommend? (photomatix?) I have Photoshop7, a little over my head and aCdC, limited. Wish I had stumbled across you before our 2 week trip to Italy, where I took 600+ pics with my brand new camera, not really knowing yet what I’m doing…would have loved to been able to have multiple shots on a lot of the pics I took. I love the paint effect? on Bermuda scooter…how did you do that? I visited Bermuda twice with my parents when I was a child, beautiful memories. And now you have me quite enamored with 9 beaches!! You have incredible talent. Bellisimo!ReplyCancel

Hi. I found this image through a search on Google for “rolled away” – I was looking for images of stones, rolled away, and I was just struck by this image. I had a quick look at some of the other pictures, and you have a real talent – your passion and meticulous preparation for the images are quite astonishing.
Just wanted to share that. Keep up the amazing work – it’s a blessing to see such beautiful photos.

For those that want to know a little about the earth we live on, this is called a glacial erratic. It travelled over 25 miles in a thick glacier over 2000 years ago. It’s big as a car and perched on the edge of the mountain.

For those that want to know a little about the picture, this is called an HDR image. I travelled over 750 miles in a heavy rain over 1 year ago to climb this mountain in the dark and take this shot. I lit the boulder with a big million candle flashlight during the exposures. I only got off one set of images when the flashlight started to die. The longest exposure was f/22 @ 28 seconds.

Is this an HDR shot? If yes, how many exposures did you take for this? 😀 thanks.ReplyCancel

Yano – yes very mildly tone mapped though. I didn’t want to minimize the area lit by the flashlight by raising detail in the background.ReplyCancel

This is the most interesting photo of Bubble Rock that I’ve seen. I think I might have to press my brain harder now that my eyes are opened more. 🙂 markReplyCancel

Great photo! I was there in the middle of the day. Your hike back to Bubble Lake after dark without a good flashlight must have been interesting.ReplyCancel
